Stop Bullying with Spookley the Square Pumpkin

Spread the loveDid you know that the month of October is National Bullying Prevention month? I am sad to admit that I had no clue, and I am a mom of 3. Even though bullying occurs at all ages, young children and adolescents are greatly affected by bullying in an environment that they can not escape from: school. No better time than now to educate our children on bullying prevention. It is made easier with the Halloween movie ‘Spookley the Square Pumpkin’. Put an end to bullying. Bullying is such a sad occurrence. My oldest has already had her fair share of bullying, and she is only 8. Even with bullying normally occurring outside the home, prevention can all start there. Teaching our children how to treat others and when it is not ok to be treated a certain way by others. I am trying to instill these beliefs in my children: Be kind Be understanding Be accepting Be true to yourself Kids find a way to get wrapped up in different situations and can’t find their way out. Teaching them to be open and willing to stand up for themselves is important. My oldest was recently being bullied by another little boy at her school. I told her that behavior wasn’t acceptable and that she needed to inform her teacher about what was going on. Once she did this, the situation was cleared up and the boy apologized. Of course this situation could have been a lot worse, and thankful for it easily being cleared up. Spookley the Square Pumpkin and Bullying Prevention. If your family has not seen the movie “Spookley the Square Pumpkin”, then you must find the time to watch it! It is currently on Netflix. This movie takes place on a pumpkin patch where there is one, very different, pumpkin. Spookley is square shaped instead of round. He is kind and always looking for the best in others. The other animals and pumpkins make fun of him, telling him that no one would want an odd pumpkin that isn’t like the others. By the end of the movie, we are all taught that bullying is wrong and that although we may be different, we are all very special! Different is not a bad thing! In my son’s words after watching “Spookley the Square Pumpkin”, We should be nice to everyone! That wasn’t very nice of the others to be mean to Spookley just because he was square. Take advantage of this October. With Halloween and all things pumpkin being the theme for this month, Spookley will be the perfect opportunity to educate your children about bullying prevention. It all starts at the home, Help put a stop to bullying and teaching our kids how we should treat one another.
