Spread the love

My kids are all about some cookies, especially sugar cookies made just by them! We love to make the most of baking cookies in our family, setting up a table just for all the cookie prepping. Have kids that love to bake cookies? Well, this sugar cookie recipe is perfect for cookie cutters and sugar sprinkles.

More mess, more memories, more sugar cookies.

I would have never thought I would be all about baking cookies with kids in my very own kitchen. My OCD self has always loved a clean space. When you add kids in the picture, that all changes, especially with powdered sugar and flour involved. Baking cookies with my kids is something we all enjoy even with all the mess that it entails, The smiles and laughter along with a batch of delicious cookies is all that this momma needs some days, besides a cup of coffee or two!

Cookie Cutter Sugar Cookies

This sugar cookie recipe is one of our favorites. It wasn’t until my stepmom told me her secret about using powdered sugar that I realized how much I really liked this recipe along with the powdered sugar. We even roll our dough in a little bit of powdered sugar instead of flour. This gives the cookies a more chewy texture rather than a denser one with the flour.

Setting up the table.

Setting up the table for sugar cookie prep is very simple! The easiest way I have found is to tape parchment paper down for each child prepping dough. Each spot then will have a little bit of powdered sugar for rolling. Then paper cupcake liners are placed down the table, filled with different colored sugar sprinkles. Of course you can’t forget all those fun cookie cutters and a rolling pin!

Give each child their very own dough ball to work with. Let them do as much as they can by themselves. I have to give my three year old some assistance when it comes to the rolling of the dough. Other than that,

I do it myself!

She obviously can handle the rest. I have the oven preheating while the kids are prepping the cookies. Their patience for eating those cookies they have created is very slim, haha! One key note: if the dough is getting too soft while waiting, you can place it back in the refrigerator for about 5 minutes. Cookie cutter cookies do best when the dough is chilled. This helps keep them from spreading when the are baking.

Extra cautious about her cookie design 😉

Sugar cookies make for a great family time.

The entire process of baking sugar cookies is such a great way to spend time with family. The after cookie prep is a great one: eating cookies while enjoying the time with loved ones!

  • 1 cup butter, unsalted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
