Here for all the white in the kitchen, specifically a kitchen with white cabinets.
I don’t know what it is about having white kitchen cabinets. Shoot, I even love white for all around. Literally. The outside of our house is even painted a shade of white. What can I say, I like white. This may seem a tad bit strange considering I have 3 kids and a dog. They are not the cleanliest bunch. Something about the white always makes things feel cleaner.
So many shades of white.
Did you know that there are a ton of different shades of white? Not just a creamy white or a pure white, but a lot of different shades. Sherwin Williams has an entire booklet full of all the different paint colors of white you can purchase. I had no clue! Depending on the shade of white depends on what colors they will pull when the light hits them. For instance, some white paint will tend to look more stark on your walls while others will look softer. This is all due to undertones.
There are white paints with cool undertones, which will have shades of blue, green an purple. There are also white paints with warm undertones. These whites will have a hint of yellow, orange or red. It truly makes a different in what tints these whites will pull when you put them up against other colors as well as how the sunlight will hit it.
So what kind of white do you want?
Snowbound for a kitchen with white cabinets.
I always thought I would be team pure white when it came to white paint. It wasn’t until I truly realized all the differences in white paint colors that I decided to venture out from my ‘go-to’. The winner for our new home’s white paint color of choice is Sherwin Williams, Snowbound (SW7004). Snowbound is what we painted the outside of our home as well as the kitchen cabinets and all of the trim work. As I mentioned above, it all depends on the undertone and what colors you put up next to it.
The white paint looks totally different from the white paint used indoors, even though it is the same paint color. Snowbound has an LRV of 86. This means that it has a slightly gray undertone, making it a great match for other cool tones. Instead of having blue or green undertones, Snowbound has gray undertones and maybe a tad bit of beige. The kitchen cabinets blend well with the wall paint color,
I am a huge fan of cool tones, especially when I am mixing warm accents. It helps to tone down the ‘brightness’ of warmer attributes, like my champagne gold cabinet pulls, light fixtures, and kitchen sink faucet! The Snowbound paint color is crisp, cool, and will brighten up any space! Another great white paint color is Alabaster (SW 7008). It is a more warm white paint color, with hints of yellow and gray. I didn’t go with Alabaster due to the gold accents!
Let’s talk about those gold accents.
Gold and white is so dreamy together! I never realized it until I saw a photo of a bathroom where there were gold and white accents. I was forever hooked after that. When it came to building our home, I knew that I wanted white cabinets with gold pulls. There was no question. Then it came to deciding the countertop and backsplash. How was I going to make it all flow great together without looking like an overloaded cheesy 80’s setting? Easy. Find a gold that was a good in-between for the white cabinets and the wall color. Then have the countertops and backsplash pull in the cooler tones of the white and wall color.
Enter in the champagne gold. Champagne gold is more of a muted gold when it comes golds. It is a beige gold material. The cooler tones of the champagne gold go perfect with the undertones of the Snowbound kitchen cabinets. You know what else goes well with champagne gold? A beige-gray.
As you can see, the cabinet pulls, light fixtures and even the kitchen sink blend well with the overall look of the kitchen without being overwhelming. All the colors compliment each other.
To do or not to do, MARBLE.
Okay, enough talk about the cabinets. Although I am a tad bit obsessed with the overall look of these! Now for the countertop. I have gotten a lot of questions about our countertop. Yes, it is a marble. I seriously debated at first whether or not to go with marble or not for our kitchen countertops. First off, I have three kids who are messy. Secondly, I love to cook and bake. These countertops will be put to use and not just for show.
Did you know that although granite is a harder than marble, you still have to care for it? A lot of people don’t realize that granite still should be cared for when it comes to cleaning and sealing it. You can stain a white granite countertop just the same as you could a marble countertop if you don’t care for it properly. Marble is still more tedious when it comes to care and maintenance due to it being porous. Without properly cleaning and sealing it on a regular basis, it will easily be stained aka etched.
To have this white kitchen the way I want it is well-worth the extra maintenance that it will entail. If momma is happy in the kitchen, more happy meals and desserts will exit it. Am I right?
We went with Shadow Storm Marble because of the beautiful coloring and pattern. The gray hues are more from the beige family, helping it go great with the color scheme of the entire room. The backsplash pulls these same colors, but more subtle than the countertops. The backsplash is just a stone tile with a bit of waviness to the texture.
A white kitchen deserves a tad bit of color on the walls.
As I mentioned earlier, you want to pick colors that will all compliment each other. Since I decided on Snowbound for the cabinets as well as all the trim, I knew I wanted to go with a beige paint color due to the white paint as well as the colors noted in the countertops and the gold accents. This is where Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray (SW7029) comes into play. I love Agreeable Gray! Agreeable Gray is more of a neutral greige paint color. It leans more towards yellow-orange than toward green. Hello meetup with gold!
This paint color goes so well with gold accents as well as the cooler white paint color. It all blends well together without masking one or the other. I used Agreeable Gray in the kitchen as well as in the living room.
Nothing like being in a kitchen you love.
There is truly nothing like having a kitchen that you are truly in love with! Our kitchen is a meeting spot for so many reasons, whether it is me cooking or baking or the kids grabbing their one hundredth snack of the day. The kitchen is the hot spot when we are inside the house. I couldn’t be happier at how it all came together with my kitchen with white cabinets. Now, to get to creating some recipes! Would you go with a more white kitchen?
